Scenic Boat Trips
Our 40ft boat - An Gearóidín - will provide full or half day trips off the coast to the beautiful islands off the Mullet Peninsula - Inis Ge and Inis Gluaire Islands all of which are steeped in history and are waiting for you to explore. We also offer trips around Stags of Broadhaven and to the dramatic Achill Island, Inishbofin and Clare Island.

Walking & Hiking
Long deserted beaches, spectacular cliffs, archaeological and historical heritage all combine to make Erris a treasure for those who wish to explore on foot. From gentle strolls to more challenging mountain climbs, Béal an Mhuirthead (Belmullet) has some magnificant walking trails. There is a series of mapped and marked walks in the area including the Bangor Trail and the Western Way.

Watersports
The clear and unspoilt water around the coast, along with an abundance of wind and waves, makes Erris a magnet for watersports enthusiasts. From surfing, to kite surfing, windsurfing, sailing, swimming and diving. Whatever water sport you're into Erris has the facilities. We also boast two blue flag beaches at Mullaghroe & Elly Bay.

Birdwatching
The wide variety of habitats in the Erris area make it particularly interesting for birdwatchers. Cormorants and many different types of gull inhabit the beaches and coastline. The Corncrake is heard in a number of meadows in the northern part of the Mullet Peninsula. There is a bird reserve being developed at Annagh Marsh. This is a very sensitive area and access is by prior arrangement only with Birdwatch Ireland. For more information go to Birdwatch Ireland.

Culture
Part of the Mayo Gaeltacht, where both English and Irish are spoken, the area plays host in summer months to students enrolled in local Irish language summer schools. The area is rich in heritage and this is celebrated with an annual music and community Festival every summer.

A favourite trip is to local Ceide Fields in Ballycastle, North Mayo. Here you can indulge yourself in a vast prehistoric landscape, a natural wild ecology of blanket bog, dramatic cliffs and coastline, and a much acclaimed building, which has received Ireland's most prestigious architectural award.
