Belmullet

The Broadhaven Bay Hotel is located in Belmullet, Co. Mayo and is ideally located to discover the breathtaking scenery of the unspoilt Atlantic Coast and the truly captivating Erris Peninsula.

Belmullet is a lovely bustling town and although officially part of the Mayo Gaeltacht, it is both English and Irish speaking. The area plays host in summer months to students enrolled in local Irish language summer schools.

The town of Belmullet has a population of about 2,000, people and has a lot of amenities for tourists visiting the town. The town has many shops including a Post Office, large food shops, hardware shops, hairdressers, beauticians, drapery, chemists, pubs and restaurants. It has a civic centre which consists of the Áras Inis Gluaire arts centre, a courthouse, the Belmullet branch of the Mayo County Library, Mayo Co Council Offices and Údarás na Gealtachta offices. In the grounds of the centre there is a children’s playground , landscaped areas as well as ample car parking. The town has its own Garda Station and Fire Brigade Station and a Life Boat centre.. There are two Doctor’s Surgeries, two Dental Surgeries, an Opticians and an Ambulance service. A Catholic Church is located in the town and has a service on Saturday evening and one on Sunday morning.

Belmullet hosts their annual festivals between July and August.

Access by Air:

Fly into Ireland West Airport Knock (1.5 hr drive) Shannon Airport (3.5hr drive), Sligo Airport or Galway Airport (2hr) drive and Dublin Airport (4.5hr drive). A hotel bus service is available to guests from these locations.

Access by Road:

Ballina Mayo and Castlebar Mayo are the major road gateways. These can be reached from Dublin by following signs for the N5 and after Swinford (if going through Ballina) exit the N5 for the N26. At Ballina (Mayo) exit the N26 for the N59. At Bangor exit the N59 for the R313. Our sat nav coordinates are: 54.21835, -9.976616.

Access by Rail:

Irish Rail (Iarnród Éireann) daily trains from Dublin to Castlebar or Dublin to Ballina.

Access by Bus:

Bus Éireann provides a service twice daily in July and August. Otherwise the service runs once a day.

Wavesweeper Sea Adventures was established in 2012 in Belmullet and has endevoured to enable travelers to explore the region by sea and showcase the mystery, history and sheer wilderness of the rugged diverse Erris coastline from Achill Island on the South of Blacksod Bay to "Dun Bhriste" at Downpatrick Head to the North East of the Barony, and indeed inshore of Blacksod Bay and Broadhaven Bay.

The wild, rugged coastline is dotted with hidden caves, cliffs, beaches, coves, islands, sea stacks, sculptures and reminders to eras gone by fro as far back as the neolithic age.

Inis Gé Island Experience

This tour begins where the road ends, literally!

Hop on board “Wavesweeper 2” at Blacksod Pier and prepare to tackle the Atlantic Swells on route to Inis Ge South. Experience the crystal clear waters surrounding an Island rich in History and Heritage. Immerse yourself in the tranquillity of this heavenly retreat and be at one with nature. Broadhaven Bay, Benwee Head and Kid Island Experience

Hop on board "Wavesweeper 2" at Ballyglass pier. Brave the sweels of Broadhaven Bay as we powerto Ballyglass lighthouse and witness cormorant, seagulls, gannets and puffins in their natural habitat. Catch a glimpse of a curious seal or cast a line if fishing tickles your fancy. Explore the rugged cliffs, caves and sea stacks around Kid Island, A testament to the strength and relentlessness of mother nature. Navigate past the intimidating cliff face at Benwee Head, one of the “Wild Atlantic Ways” discovery points, then back to the pier.

The Blacksod Island Adventure Experience

This is the ultimate day adventure. Climb aboard our rib at Blacksod Pier and get ready to race across to Inis Ge South via the beautiful Duvillaun Islands and cast a line for lunch... Land at Inis Ge and hike to the tower where you will be greeted with some of the most spectacular unspoilt scenery along the rugged west coast of Ireland. BBQ your catch on the beach, before kayaking to the North Island for some more exploration of yet another beautiful deserted Island steeped in history and heritage, whose only inhabitants are the hardiest of creatures, maily birds, hares, rabbits, sheep and seals. Take to the crystal clear water and enjoy swimming and snorkelling before kayaking back to the South island to dry off and navigate back to the main land

Half Day Erris Underwater Experience

See life from a new perspective. Discover a whole host of varieties of Marine life, Sea Urchins, Fish, Crabs, Lobsters, Underwater forests, with visibility of up to 10 meters. Explore caves and crevices and learn of the 39 different varieties of fish fond along the Erris Coastline, count the different types of crabs and sea enemies & Urchins and marvel at the colours of the seaweed dancing with the current. Learn a new skill and enjoy life, fun for hens, stags, families and groups of friends. Erris offers safe sites in all weather, we provide all wetsuits, snorkels, masks and fins. We are fully insured and all our guides are qualified and registered with CFT.
